Product Costs (COGS)

Cost of goods sold (COGS) is the single most important input for accurate profit detection. Without it, Profixo can't confirm whether a product is actually making or losing money.

Where costs come from

Profixo reads the cost per item you've set on your Shopify product variants. If you already maintain costs in Shopify, Profixo uses them automatically — no extra work.

When a cost is missing

Profixo is built on a strict rule: it never guesses a loss. If a product has no cost, Profixo won't fabricate one to manufacture an alert. Instead it does one of two things:

  • Uses your default margin fallback to produce a lower-confidence estimate, or
  • Prompts you to enter the missing cost so it can give you a confirmed answer.

Missing costs = missed leaks

If many products lack costs, Profixo will surface fewer confirmed alerts — not because your store is healthy, but because it can't see clearly. Adding costs is the fastest way to unlock accurate detection.

Confidence scoring

Every alert carries a confidence level that reflects how complete its inputs are:

ConfidenceMeaning
HighReal cost data present; the loss is confirmed.
MediumBased on an estimate (e.g. margin fallback or allocated ad spend).
None / lowNot enough data to confirm — Profixo asks for the missing input instead.

Adding a cost from an alert

When an alert is limited by a missing cost, you can enter the cost right on the alert. Profixo re-checks the math immediately and upgrades the alert's confidence on the next analysis.
